A pier is a structure above the water, which is usually built of wood or metal on piles, and standing on it, you can enjoy the view of the water expanses and the feeling of standing in the center of the reservoir without getting your feet wet. The pier has a diverse purpose, there are working piers used for mooring ships, piers for walking or jogging and fishing piers. The original purpose of the piers was convenient unloading of cargo ships, but nowadays, they are more popular as wonderful places to walk against the background of incredible sea sunsets and sunrises, and are also an important part of coastal resorts, where various shops, restaurants or even full-fledged amusement parks with attractions are often built. The first piers for walking were built in the UK at the beginning of the 19th century. There, in the English seaside town called Ryde, is the oldest seaside pier, almost 1/2 mile long. Along the pier itself, you can not only walk, but also drive by car, and at the beginning of it there is parking.
