Rustic bunting, a bird of the bunting family, can be translated from Latin as "simple". This bird is small, the body length is 5–6 inches, and the wingspan averages 8–10 inches. The weight of the bird is 0.6-0.8 oz, which is comparable to the weight of one AA battery. The beak is quite large, with a straight ridge, in a situation of fear or excitement, the bird can raise a small tuft on the head. The rustic bunting usually breeds in the northern regions of the Palearctic in moist coniferous forests and the outskirts of swamps. The breeding season begins in late spring, and both males and females take care of the offspring, both incubate eggs and feed the cubs. Nests are built low, closer to the ground, more often in bushes or other dense vegetation, but the bird also spends a lot of time in the crowns of trees. Nests are usually built from moss, grass and stems. The rustic bunting is a migratory bird, wintering mainly in the regions of East Asia, such as eastern China, South Korea and Japan. The diet consists mostly of various types of seeds, but the bird can also eat insects and other small invertebrates.
