Each family keeps and transmits its own Christmas customs, but one tradition that everyone tries to observe without exception is to celebrate Christmas with family or friends. One of the brightest Christmas traditions is Christmas Eve on December 24 with all the relatives gathered at the candlelit dinner table. It is impossible not to mention the gingerbread man, which is widely known all over the world, and is a culinary symbol of Christmas. Christmas carols are widespread in many countries, often on the streets on Christmas Eve you can meet a choir performing them and the most popular are Hark the Herald Angels Sing and Silent Night. Many follow the tradition of giving warm clothes for Christmas, which was well shown in the film Bridget Jones's Diary, where literally in the very first minutes actor Colin Firth appears in a ridiculous jumper with a deer — a gift from his mother. Another tradition familiar from movies and cartoons: Christmas stockings are hung in a room by the fireplace or on the wall so that Santa Claus puts gifts in them on the night before Christmas. When it gets really dark and cold outside, many people like to wrap themselves in a warm blanket, drink a cup of hot chocolate and watch Christmas movies on TV, like It’s A Wonderful Life, Home Alone, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, A Christmas Story or Jingle All the Way. Nowadays, everyone can choose the Christmas traditions that they like, and who knows, maybe solving a puzzle with a Christmas picture with the whole family could be one of them.
