The jay is a rare bird. It usually settles in spruce, fir and mixed forests. Jays nest in separate pairs, at a great distance from each other. The nest is built on a tree by both parents during the snowmelt period or later. Branches, roots and dry grass are used as building material for the nest. The clutch consists of 5–8 eggs, the eggs are hatched by both parents for 17–18 days.
